Monica Van Dyke Johnson Fine Art

"My environment has always been important to me.  My mother taught me the beauty of home and music; my father shared his love of the sea; and my family and friends share the beauty of their surroundings as they celebrate simple moments in time.  My professional career led me to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the country as my colleagues created extraordinary built environments that have an amazing sense of place and foster community, yet treasure and protect the landscape and wildlife.

The culmination of these experiences has manifested into a longing to capture environments on canvas.  Capturing the freedom of a bird as it soars through the sky, my husband’s comfort coming home to relax with our dogs, my granddaughter’s “ballet” as she and her dog are dressed in pink tutus on a sun-lit stair...these are the environments of life.  As an artist, I strive to capture these simple, but important moments and express the emotion of the moment and the impact of place."
